Loyalhanna Lake Dam Pump Control Upgrades

Saltsburg, Pennsylvania

Loyalhanna Dam was constructed in 1942 and serves as a flood control structure for numerous rivers in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Work under this contract required Maverick to replace the existing soft starters and control panel for the hydraulic pumps that operated 8 sluice gates within the dam. The new control panel would eliminate the need for soft starters and eliminate unnecessary controls within the system. In addition, Maverick had to remove 4 each local control panels that were no longer utilized to operate the sluice gates. The contract required for phased replacement to ensure the gates could be operated at any time.

Maverick worked closely with the control panel fabricator and electrician to develop a plan where all work could be executed during a two day construction window when there was favorable weather. All work was executed according to the plan and the dam’s facility manager were extremely pleased with the minimal impact to their daily operations.
